1. Normal Operation
- The HID iCLASS reader with the SABRE module requires less than 200mA during peak load operations.
-
Sustained current is less than 100mA.
-
The SABRE module adds approximately 20mA when Wi-Fi is enabled.
2. Firmware Update – SABRE Module
-
During a firmware update, the SABRE module uses less than 20mA.
3. Firmware Update – HID iCLASS Reader
-
While not related to Safetrust technology, an HID reader firmware update using an HID firmware update cardcan require up to 450mA.
-
Important: If your panel cannot supply 450mA, the update may brick your HID reader. This is a known issue with HID iCLASS readers.
Recommendations
-
Do not perform field firmware updates on HID readers unless you have a spare reader on hand.
-
The update process takes 15-20 minutes per reader and has a high probability of failure based on experience.
